Functional Lab Testing

These are 3 of my favourite resources that can help to identify the underlying imbalances, which cause hormone & digestive issues.

Good news - they can all be done in the comfort of your own home!

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is the most accurate way to test intracellular mineral status. It tests for 35 elements, including 28 important nutritional elements (calcium, zinc, selenium, copper etc) & 7 toxic heavy metals (mercury, arsenic, aluminium, lead etc) The ratio's calculated can also indicate imbalances such as inflammation, thyroid/adrenal issues & blood sugar dysregulation.

It requires a small amount of hair (1 tsp.) collected at the root & it’s best to wait 6-8 weeks after your last hair colour appointment, to make sure you have 1.5 inches of hair that hasn't been colour treated.

GI-MAP Stool Test

The GI-MAP test offers a comprehensive analysis using DNA/PCR techniques, that can provide the markers most relevant for understanding the digestive environment and the effects on the human body, paying particular attention to microbial balances.

This single sample stool test also measures the markers such as parasitic, bacterial and viral pathogens, potential autoimmune triggers, fungi and yeast (including candida), Helicobacter pylori and GI health markers to assess digestive capacity, inflammation, malabsorption and gut immunity.

DUTCH Hormone Test

This advanced hormone testing range was developed to improve on the available hormone testing options. In their words DUTCH offers the most extensive profile of sex and adrenal hormones along with their metabolites. Additionally, the daily (diurnal) pattern of free cortisol is included along with melatonin. This unique combination of clinical information is not available by any other method. You collect just four or five dried urine samples over a 24-hour period, in the comfort of your own home. This tests benefits women dealing with symptoms of hormonal imbalance such as PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, menstrual irregularities and fertility challenges.
